All about Nails

Actually, it's all about nails and hands! I make no apologies for sharing tips I may have told you before, as they are all still relevant, but equally I hope you will pick up a few new ones, so let's dig in...

Hand Cream - I know I have talked a lot about the importance of hand cream. But I haven't shared the best way to apply it. We automatically squeeze the cream into the palm of our hands, then rub our hands together, finishing off with the outsides. But I would like you to try a very different approach.

Instead, squeeze the hand cream on the outside of one hand and then turn the other hand so the two backs are together - so you share the cream across the two hands. Work the cream into all of your nails, including the cuticles, and the backs of your hands, doing one then the other. Wipe the palm of one hand over the back of the other and vice versa, to pick up any residue left over.

This approach means you are focusing on the most exposed parts of your hands first, as well as giving the much needed attention to your nails. Our palms and inner hands are usually much softer so don't need that attention.

It will require some focus as it goes against our natural habit, but try it at bed time for a few days, and see how you get on.

Crystal Nail File - instead of using a rough emery board try a crystal nail file. The surface is nowhere near as abrasive, and the use of a crystal file should reduce the risk of delaminating the nails. The market leader is the Leighton Denny one: Crystal Nail File. Keep it in the case though, as it is glass and will shatter.

Remember my previous advice - don't saw with any nail file. File in one direction only - either centre to the side or side to the centre - whichever works best for you.

Not keen on the full nail polish look? Then try some of the semi-sheer colours. They give a delicate colour to the nails, but you can see your own nail through the polish. Try OPI - R U Happy 2 C Me?, Jessica - Sheer Romance Call Me Baby or Leighton Denny - Butterfly Wings.
