Eye see You

I know I have talked about eyes before, so this time, I wanted to give you some advice for looking after your eyes...

Eye make up removal

Removing your eye make up can sometimes feel like quite a task, especially if you favour waterproof mascara. But enthusiastically rubbing backwards and forwards with a cotton wool pad is not something your eyes are going to thank you for.

Soak cotton wool pads in eye make up remover - I would go for one suitable for waterproof mascara, even if you don't use that. Hold the pad on your eye for a few seconds to soak in, and then gently wipe away from the inside of your eye towards your ear. Fold the pad over and repeat that process. If there is still a lot of eye make up repeat that process. Then dip a cotton wool bud in remover and gently run over your lashes and under your eye, to catch any last remnants.

Follow this up with a full facial cleanse and tone, which again will pick up any make up left behind.

Dark circles under eyes

This is a common problem and affects many people. There are a number of causes, but the most common is tiredness. On that basis, the most obvious way to cure it is to ensure you get good quality sleep - but I know that's easier said than done.

Dark circles can also be hereditary. Allergies can create circles, and I'm afraid ageing plays its part. We lose the elasticity in our skin as we get older and so the under eye area can sag.

So, what can you do?

Keep drinking water - I know I say it so often, but truly it really is your body's best defence against so many things. And frankly, your skin will thank you for it too.

Cucumber - yes really! Try a fairly thick slice of chilled cucumber laid over each eye and relax for a few minutes with your eyes closed. There is something about the natural healing in cucumber that can improve the dark circles. You need to do it regularly to achieve any effect - daily.

Cooling eye gel - why not keep it in the fridge? Especially as we are coming into the warmer months, this helps to reduce puffiness and soothes any soreness.

Concealer - specially designed for the under eye area - test the colour to make sure you get a good match. Choose one a little lighter than your foundation. One to try is the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector.

Eye Cream
I have shared before about just how great eye creams are. I really recommend you use an eye cream every day. They are specially formulated for the delicate eye area, and can help improve the appearance of the skin surrounding your eyes. Some can lighten/brighten over time too.
